Itenieraries

Good Grief. I just looked at how the flight info pasted over. Cathy, send me your email and I will forward it to you in a readable format. Sorry 'bout that!
Kym

All your questions answered in one short novel

Ok, let me see if I can give some information about this cruise for all you people who are already packing, for those of you who need the details. Please understand that I think we are all a bit baffled by each other. I am silently shaking my head because some of you are freaking out over the details, as I know you are all shaking your heads at me because I don’t need the details. Tim included. I have now called Carnival Cruise lines a total of 4 times today and Delta twice (the first time maybe didn’t count. I hung up and called back to try to get someone I could understand.)

Onto the other concerns:

I tried to get them to move our rooms so that we were all on the floor, but it just ain’t happening. Apparently they only have 30 rooms left available. Right. Whatever. I tried.

We are confirmed for early seating dinner which is at 6PM. Just a reminder, one of the rules is that we all eat dinner together, so please plan to be there.

There are TWO formal nights for dinner. Formal will be pretty much from A-Z in dress code. I would imagine it means no shorts and probably collared shirts for men. I think we are planning one of those nights for Tim and Talon to rent Tuxedos and the rest of us to be decked out. If you would like to coordinate that for our families for pictures and such, let me know. I’m fairly easy going with the planning thing. J

Highchairs: No need for a reservation on this. It’s just like a restaurant. You walk into dining room and ask for one (or two, as the case is here) and they will bring it.

Cribs: Cribs have been reserved in both the hotel and onboard. There should be a crib in Dan and Cathy’s room and one in Kevin and Cindy’s room. If is not there when you board, please don’t panic. Just ask one of the guys you will see in the hallways or leave a note in your room.

There are NOT refrigerators in the inside cabins, which is what you all have. However, you WILL find sodas and bottled water in your rooms. If you open, you buy. :(

FEEDING YOUR YOUNG CHILD AT NIGHT: They WILL bring milk in the middle of the night for your babies-they will even heat it up if you ask! They have a 24 hour room service that is included. Please take advantage of it! Like Tim said, order your food, stick your finger in the middle of it, eat it, don’t eat it. Don’t worry about it though!

You CAN bring your own bottled water.

You CAN bring your own toilet paper.

You CAN bring your own soda. They didn’t confirm it, but I remember being very frustrated when I was a pepsi drinker and all they had was COKE.

FREE BEVERAGES include: water, coffee, hot tea, sweetened tea, and lemonade. All other beverages there is a charge for.

SODA CARDS: 17 years old and under: $32.25 for the week. 18 and older: $44.25

They DO NOT provide lanyards for your room key or sail & Sign cards. If you want/need one of these, purchase and bring with you.

TIPS: There is a MANDATORY $70.00 pp tip fee assessed. This will be assessed to each individual person’s Sail & Sign Card, with the EXCEPTION of children 2 and younger. THERE IS NOT A TIP FEE ASSESSED ON CHILDREN 2 and UNDER. You can register online and pre-pay this or it will be added to your account onboard.

SAIL & SIGN CARDS: Each person will get their own Sail & Sign Card. You will either need to provide a credit card for Carnival to keep on file, which they will authorize for $50.00 at a time or you can prepay with cash. You can set up these accounts to be a “member with charging privileges” or a “member WITHOUT charging privileges.” Just so you don’t have to worry that your 9 year old is actually purchasing the cruise ship itself, while you chill by the pool! J Your picture will be taken when you walk onto the ship and attached to your Sail & Sign account. Every time you purchase something onboard, your pic will come p and they verify that you are who you are. It is also your access on and off the boat. This is how they account for everyone. DON'T LOSE THIS CARD!!!

ROOM KEYS: The room keys are DIFFERENT than the Sail & Sign cards. Which means we can swap room keys around and Suzy can rest assured that when her and John get separated she can still get into her room where the GOOD toilet paper is!

The bad thing is that they told me they only give 2 room keys per cabin. We will figure out how many room keys we actually need for each room and see who this might affect. Someone might have to “lose” a room key and get a replacement.

BAGGAGE FEES: I don’t know how helpful this is. I called Delta. Yes, Tim is a medallion member. Yes, that means that him and everyone on his reservation will be waived baggage fees. When I told him there are 22 of us booked on that reservation, he paused and said, “Well, that is what it says, but I can’t make any promises.” Uh. Ok, then. If you check in online your first bag MAY or MAY NOT be $15.00. Second bag MAY or MAY NOT be $25.00. If you check in at the airport, your first bag MAY or MAY NOT be $20.00 and your second bag MAY or MAY NOT be $25.00. Helpful, right?

OK, now I am going to list out your FAKE room assignments. Please don’t freak out. I had to book these this way because there had to be an adult 25 or older in every room with minors. They do not consider 18 and 19 adults. The booking number is next to name along with cabin room assignment.

We will figure out what cabin everyone will REALLY be in later. I’m thinking later, as in the day we board the ship, but I know that isn’t going to fly with this group. So, I will bring the FAKE and REAL assigned rooms on Sunday and Kevin can figure it out. It isn't a matter of just switching room keys. Some rooms are only booked w 2 people, some with 3 and some with 4. We have to make sure we switch everyone around so that the right number of people are in the right rooms with the beds all made up for the correct amount of people. Happy Birthday, Kev!

PLEASE GO ONLINE!!!

*Go to www.Carnivalcruise.com

*Set up your profile (and your children’s profiles) using the booking numbers provided

*Set up your Sail & Sign Cards or FUN PASS accounts, this will make the boarding process much easier and faster.

*Please don’t freak out when you see other people assigned to your rooms. Remember these are fake assignments and for Carnival's benefit only.

*When it asks for what hotel you are staying at, use the Marriott. It worked when I set up my account.

I know some of you are really bummed about excursion issues. PLEASE don’t worry! There are going to be SO MANY things to see and do, both onboard and in each port. Things that don’t cost a lot of money or less than what is advertised on the ship. Each port we get off will have a million signs advertising different excursions. They are all safe, I promise! I have NEVER once booked an excursion thru the ship directly (well, I did book one and it got cancelled due to bad weather.) Tim and went on ONE excursion when we went and we had a BLAST and found all kinds of other things to do!

We are taking care of all hotel accommodations, cab fares to and from the airport and also to and from the pier for the cruise. Hopefully this medallion member thing will turn out to have some redeeming benefits and none of us will have to pay Delta's stupid baggage fee. Also, there will be a $100.00 per cabin on board ship credit that can be used towards the tips, onboard purchases such as pictures, souvenirs, books, gum, jewelry, alcohol, gambling, Tylenol, diapers, tampons, or whatever else.

Only 52 days left. Hope you are getting excited.

I hope I remembered all the questions everyone had! If I missed any please feel free to send them to...the blog, FB or my personal email. See you all Sunday! J MMMM…CAKE!!!

Got Some Questions for You

My Dearest Kym,

I am absolutely horrible at letting others plan my vacations for me. I guess I'm just not trusting enough to just show up. In light of that, could you give me a few details that my heart desires now that we are two months from take-off?

1. What flight are we taking? Airlines? Departure? Lay-overs? Transfers? Arrivals? Return flights? I've got three kidlets and would like an idea of how much entertainment I'll need to provide them.

2. Where are we staying in Miami? What kind of accommodations are we looking at? How many/who will be in our room? I'm looking for things to do while we are there and where we stay could influence our choices.

3. Do we need to do some paperwork for Carnival? When Kevin and I traveled with them last year, we had some online fun pass or something that we did in advance to make boarding smoother. And if we wanted to book an excursion in advance (still deciding at our house), would we do that through you or can we log in as being passengers ourselves with Carnival's site?

4. Have cribs been reserved for us both on the ship and at the hotel? (This is strictly my distrusting self kicking in here)

I opted to post these questions here, on the off chance that someone else might also be interested in the answers. Any answers you can provide will be oh so greatly appreciated! I enjoy the planning almost as much as the vacation, so my fun is just kicking into high gear!

With sincere adoration and only slight mockingness,
Cindy

License to Chill

I was reading through Kym’s novel about the cruise (thank you, btw) and had some ideas come to mind. And as I agree with Kym that posting some plans is a good idea, I thought I would treat my ideas like spaghetti and see what sticks to the ceiling or wall or wherever you decide to throw it.
First of all, John also got certified in SCUBA for the cruise, so please let us know when you are planning a dive so he can use his new skill. I refused to precipitate my anticipated deep water anxiety attack by getting my C-card, so he is without a partner to dive with, and would love to be included.
Most of you already know that I want to go to Hell in the Cayman Islands. Kym listed the exact tour I plan on taking-the “Best of Cayman Island Tour.” The perfect day trip- 3 hours, some culture, a little history, freakish turtles, interesting rock formations and a chance to buy a cool t-shirt from Hell, all for $46 per adult (and if you are so inclined, a sample of rum cake, too). Book it, Dan-o I am there!
Also, so much of life is about planning, and for me there are only 3 things I really, really plan out in advance-what I am eating, where I am sleeping/chilling and where and how fast I spend my cash! This being said, my plans revolve around the always important souvenir. If the excursion doesn’t have a built in souvenir, it probably won’t catch my eye. For instance, my souvenir of the boat will be motion sickness patch residue, a collection of used barf bags and a nifty smell that will take multiple washings to get out of my clothes.

I have to admit I hadn’t given much thought to Jamaica. I want to try Mexican food in Mexico and if I saw some cool ruins I wouldn’t complain and if it’s not too heavy I would like a mole bowl to bring home, but Jamaica. . . So I was grateful to read through some options and I now can’t decide what to do.

If Melissa had gotten her act together and gone dread, I would so take her on the Bob Marley Bus Adventure! I think it sounds fun, and I am so into Reggae. Imagine what you can bring back with you from THIS excursion-a buzz, some bugs and the munchies. Of course you won’t remember it so well, but I am sure it would be something awesome to forget about. But, she didn’t, so I can’t. Bummer.

I got a little excited about the bobsledding, because that is definitely a touristy thing to do, and they have got to sell dvds about the 1988 bobsled team, right? Built-in souvenir AND hours of entertainment to boot! But then the words “chair lift,” “15 minutes,” and “3,280 feet” processed and I said H to the L no! Yikes! The only thing worse than deep water is heights! It would sound more fun, if only they could make the mountain flatter. . .
Once I pulled myself together, I got seriously excited about two Jamaican adventures. If Ricky was 6 months older my decision would be made already, but since you have to be 6 to do the Jamaican Dogsled Encounter, I am not decided. I am pretty sure I will be missing Abby by then and playing with a bunch of dogs would make me feel better, so I’m keeping it on the short list. Kevin said I could lie about Ricky’s age, so that is an idea. . .
Or maybe I will try the Mini-Boat Adventure! I think it sounds fun to drive my own boat around and stuff. You also get to go to the Pirate village and who can say no to that? Do you think they have the dog holding the jail key in its mouth, just to be kitchy? If I go I want to find a t-shirt that says something pirately on it from the Haunt, like “I'd like 16 men on this chest,” “Give me some rum and I’ll a-hoy your Matie,” or “X marks my spot.” Actually, that would be funnier on sweat pants. Sorry, junior readers! I got a little carried away by my own “Souvenir-mania!” Back to cleaner thoughts, maybe I should stay out of the Pirate village. Okay that decides it, unless John objects, and he should have say I guess, I am going to Margaritaville!
Yes, Jimmy Buffet, I am eating lunch with you! The perfect Jamaican vacation day for this Parrothead will be-sled dogs and a cheeseburger in Paradise-and finding my lost shaker of salt! Three cheers for built-in souvenirs! Maybe Jimmy will be there to sign my new CDs I am buying to prepare for the occassion. Of course, you can eat at any salty piece of land on any Island Village trip, but since it’s included with the dog encounter it makes it more affordable, right? So Cindy, start teaching Ricky to say he is “six” and pack some clothes you don’t mind him getting dirty, because it’s five o’clock somewhere and we are about to encounter a dogsled in Jamaica!

EXCURSIONS! EXCURSIONS! EXCURSIONS!

EXCURSIONS! EXCURSIONS! EXCURSIONS!

T-Minus 65!

I’ve kinda been waiting for people to post about what excursions sound fun to them. It is quite possible that I am now the only one reading or posting on the family blog. So I will go ahead and do it for my own purposes so I can try to figure out what I will be doing. As of yet, there is only one thing for sure that I know has to happen, and that is scuba diving. It doesn’t matter where. My mom is getting certified specifically for this cruise and I have promised that this is one thing we will be doing together.

These excursions are right from the Carnival Cruise lines website and there are a ton more that I haven’t posted, so feel free to look there for more information. Please feel free to join me on any or all of the excursions!

Keep in mind that excursions are just one way to enjoy each port we stop in. There is always shopping, eating and walking around. If you don’t pre book your excursion, it just gives you the option to pick something when you get off the ship. There will be a million people vying for your money when you get off ship, I promise.

I didn’t post any excursions involving dolphins because I think Diane has found the best deal and if you want to do that, it should be as a group to get the best rate.

Most probably, I will be Scuba diving in Cozumel, Stingray City in Grand Cayman and doing one of the excursions involving Dunns River Falls in Jamaica.

COZUMEL: Monday, Nov 23, 8AM-10PM

Long before Cancun became a popular destination, Cozumel was well-known as a diving spot and home to the world famous Palancar Reef, which gives divers the opportunity to view thousands of brilliantly colored fish. Non-divers can kick back on a sun-drenched beach, or enjoy any number of seaside activities, such as shopping in colorful marketplaces or dining in an open-air café.

I am fairly certain this is where we will SCUBA dive on the 2 tank dive. If there is anyone else wanting to do this, we should book it now. Let me know ASAP.

OCHOS RIOS, JAMAICA Thurs. Nov.26th, 8))AM-3:00PM

Originally called "Los Chorreos" by the Spanish in 1657, Ocho Rios, once a small banana and fishing port, has become the cruise ship capital of Jamaica. Dunn's River Falls, a 600-foot natural staircase of cascading water is the most famous attraction in Ocho Rios. For sheer natural beauty, you can't surpass Shaw Park Botanical Gardens, which offers 32 acres of indigenous trees, flowers and shrubs, as well as picturesque streams and waterfalls. In addition, you'll also find plenty of opportunities for diving, sailing and golfing.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!

There are so many fabulous things to do in Jamaica, it is hard to pick just one or two. As you can see by the number of things that involve the Dunns River Falls, this is one of the main attractions. You can choose to climb the falls themselves, walk up the pathway along side it or wait at the bottom. The water is pretty cold at first.

Tim and I have both done the zip lines and the ATV excursion, which was an absolute blast! If it rains before you go, you can plan on a muddy good time!

I have done the dog sledding thing and it was a riot, although that was in Alaska where it was mega-cold so I bet this would be even more fun!

I didn’t put in any excursions about horse back riding because unless you are into riding ass to nose for 3 hours at nothing faster than a very slow walk, this is an extremely boring LONG day and costly on the wallet.
